PUMCHকিডনি রোগ বিভাগ 1979 সালে চীনে একটি নতুন ডিসিপ্লিন হিসেবে যাত্রা শুরু করে, প্রফেসর বিই ঝেংকুই হাসপাতালের অভ্যন্তরীণ মেডিসিন কিডনি রোগ বিশেষজ্ঞ দল প্রতিষ্ঠা করেন, যা চীনের প্রথম কিডনি রোগ বিভাগগুলোর মধ্যে একটি। 1980 সাল থেকে কিডনি রোগের ল্যাবরেটরি এবং হেমোডায়ালিসিস ইউনিট প্রতিষ্ঠা করা হয়। 90-এর দশকের শুরুতে, কিছু তরুণ গবেষক বিদেশ থেকে ফিরে আসেন, যারা কিডনি রোগের ক্লিনিকাল, শিক্ষা এবং গবেষণায় নতুন উদ্যম এবং উন্নয়নের সুযোগ নিয়ে আসেন। 1993 সালে হাসপাতালের অভ্যন্তরীণ মেডিসিন কিডনি রোগ বিশেষজ্ঞ দল অন্যান্য বিশেষজ্ঞ দলের মতো কিডনি রোগ বিভাগে রূপান্তরিত হয় এবং রক্ত পরিষ্কারক কেন্দ্র প্রতিষ্ঠা করা হয়। 90-এর দশকের শেষের দিকে, একাধিক ডক্টরাল এবং মাস্টার্স গ্র্যাজুয়েটরা স্নাতকোত্তর প্রশিক্ষণ বা গবেষণার জন্য আমেরিকা, ইউরোপ, অস্ট্রেলিয়া এবং জাপানে যান এবং ফিরে আসার পর কিডনি বিভাগের প্রাণবন্ততা বৃদ্ধি পায়। প্রায় 30 বছরের কঠোর পরিশ্রমের পর, কিডনি বিভাগ আধুনিক কিডনি রোগ নির্ণয় ও চিকিৎসা কেন্দ্র হিসেবে ধীরে ধীরে বিকশিত হয়েছে, যার মধ্যে কিডনি রোগের ক্লিনিক, ওয়ার্ড, রক্ত পরিষ্কারক (পেরিটোনিয়াল ডায়ালিসিস সহ) কেন্দ্র এবং কিডনি রোগের ল্যাবরেটরি অন্তর্ভুক্ত।
বছরের পর বছর ধরে, স্বাস্থ্য মন্ত্রণালয়ের সরাসরি নেতৃত্বে, উচ্চপদস্থ স্বাস্থ্যসেবা, বিদেশী রোগীদের চিকিৎসা, বিদেশে চিকিৎসা পরামর্শ ইত্যাদি কাজ সম্পন্ন করা হয়েছে।
