PUMCHKhoa Thận được thành lập vào năm 1979 tại Trung Quốc như một chuyên ngành mới, do giáo sư Bì Tăng Khởi sáng lập nhóm chuyên gia về bệnh thận trong khoa nội, trở thành một trong những khoa thận đầu tiên tại Trung Quốc. Từ năm 1980, khoa đã thiết lập phòng thí nghiệm bệnh thận và phòng lọc máu. Vào đầu những năm 90, một nhóm học giả trẻ đã trở về từ nước ngoài, mang lại sức sống mới và cơ hội phát triển cho lâm sàng, giảng dạy và nghiên cứu về bệnh thận.
Năm 1993, nhóm chuyên gia về bệnh thận trong khoa nội đã chuyển đổi thành khoa Thận, đồng thời thành lập trung tâm lọc máu. Vào cuối những năm 90, nhiều nghiên cứu sinh tiến sĩ và thạc sĩ đã tốt nghiệp và tiếp tục đào tạo sau tiến sĩ tại Mỹ, châu Âu, Úc và Nhật Bản, làm cho khoa Thận trở nên năng động và phát triển hơn. Sau gần 30 năm nỗ lực, khoa Thận đã dần phát triển thành một trung tâm chẩn đoán và điều trị bệnh thận hiện đại, bao gồm phòng khám bệnh thận, khoa nội trú, trung tâm lọc máu (bao gồm lọc bụng) và phòng thí nghiệm bệnh thận.
Trong nhiều năm qua, dưới sự lãnh đạo trực tiếp của Bộ Y tế, khoa đã hoàn thành nhiều công việc liên quan đến chăm sóc sức khỏe cho cán bộ cao cấp, điều trị cho khách nước ngoài và hội chẩn y tế quốc tế.

Là chuyên khoa trọng điểm lâm sàng do Bộ Giáo dục và Bộ Y tế công nhận. Khoa đạt trình độ cao nhất cả nước trong chẩn đoán gen và bệnh lý đối với các bệnh thận thứ phát như viêm thận lupus, tổn thương thận liên quan đến ANCA, cũng như các bệnh thận ống hiếm gặp như hội chứng Gitelman/Bartter. Khoa đã xây dựng hệ thống quản lý tích hợp cho bệnh thận giai đoạn cuối và lọc máu.
Dựa trên phân tích bệnh lý thận và miễn dịch học thận ở mức độ cao, kết hợp với xét nghiệm gen kênh ion, chúng tôi thực hiện điều trị miễn dịch cho các bệnh thận khó chữa và cung cấp dịch vụ chăm sóc toàn diện cho lọc máu/lọc bụng.
