PUMCHKhoa Siêu âm được thành lập vào năm 1972 với nhóm chuyên gia chẩn đoán siêu âm, chính thức trở thành khoa vào năm 1986, là một trong những khoa siêu âm y học đầu tiên tại Trung Quốc. Giáo sư Trương Cận Hi là trưởng khoa đầu tiên, với các trưởng khoa tiếp theo bao gồm Giáo sư Trình Ngọc Phương, Giáo sư Tăng Ngọc Tân, Giáo sư Đái Thanh và Giáo sư Lý Kiến Xu (hiện tại), trong đó Giáo sư Tăng Ngọc Tân đã giữ chức vụ trưởng khoa trong 15 năm, đóng góp xuất sắc cho khoa siêu âm của bệnh viện.
Khoa Siêu âm là một trong những khoa trọng điểm quốc gia, là cơ sở đào tạo cho sinh viên tiến sĩ, thạc sĩ và bác sĩ nội trú chuyên ngành siêu âm y học. Khoa có tổng cộng 7 giáo sư chính, 16 phó giáo sư, 9 bác sĩ điều trị, 12 bác sĩ nội trú và 3 tiến sĩ lâm sàng. Trong số các bác sĩ trẻ dưới 35 tuổi, 90% có bằng tiến sĩ hoặc đang theo học tiến sĩ, thạc sĩ. Khoa có trang thiết bị và cơ sở vật chất tốt, sở hữu hầu hết các thiết bị siêu âm chẩn đoán và điều trị can thiệp hàng đầu thế giới.

Xếp hạng thứ hai trong danh sách uy tín chuyên khoa siêu âm y học quốc gia, do Giáo sư Tăng Ngọc Tân và các chuyên gia hàng đầu quốc gia dẫn dắt. Khoa được công nhận là tiêu chuẩn quốc gia trong lĩnh vực chẩn đoán siêu âm tuyến giáp, khối u vú, mạch máu ngoại vi, siêu âm ổ bụng và tiểu khung, cũng như siêu âm trước sinh cho thai nhi, với sức mạnh vượt trội trong can thiệp điều trị dưới hướng dẫn siêu âm.
Kết hợp siêu âm tương phản (CEUS), hình ảnh đàn hồi sóng cắt (SWE) và Doppler độ phân giải cao, cùng với sinh thiết bằng kim dưới hướng dẫn siêu âm và điều trị xâm lấn tối thiểu.
