PUMCHDe afdeling Urologie van het ziekenhuis werd opgericht in de jaren veertig van de twintigste eeuw. In de jaren vijftig hebben oudere artsen zoals Yu Songting, Wu Jieping en Shi Xien een gespecialiseerde afdeling van aanzienlijke omvang opgericht. Van de jaren zestig tot de jaren tachtig hebben experts zoals Liu Guozhen, Wu Decheng en Xia Mofu de afdeling ontwikkeld tot een van de meest gerenommeerde urologische afdelingen in het land. Onder de inspiratie van het ziekenhuismotto 'Streng, nauwkeurig, ijverig, en toegewijd' is de afdeling door de inspanningen van verschillende generaties artsen in de loop der jaren uitgegroeid tot een toonaangevende afdeling in binnen- en buitenland, met specialisaties in adrenal chirurgie, minimaal invasieve urologie, niertransplantatie, urologische oncologie, urolithiasis en algemene urologie.
De afdeling Urologie beschikt momenteel over 3 verpleegafdelingen met in totaal 110 bedden (92 in de algemene afdeling en 18 in de speciale afdeling). De afdeling is uitgerust met geavanceerde en complete onderzoeks-, test- en behandelingsfaciliteiten, die alle benodigde klinische onderzoeken en behandelingen kunnen uitvoeren. Naast meerdere sets laparoscopische chirurgische apparatuur, 3D-laparoscopie, robot-laparoscopische chirurgiesystemen en geïntegreerde operatiekamers, beschikt de afdeling over toonaangevende cystoscopie-apparatuur, ureteroscopen, percutane nefroscopie, lasers van 2um en 1.9um, holmiumlasers, EMS-brokenmachines, extracorporele schokgolf lithotripsie, echografie diagnostische apparatuur, beeldvormende urodynamische diagnostische apparatuur, en geavanceerde diagnostische en behandelingsapparatuur voor urologische aandoeningen. Jaarlijks worden meer dan 4000 patiënten opgenomen, met ongeveer 3900 operaties, waarvan ongeveer een derde complexe en moeilijke ingrepen zijn. Het jaarlijkse aantal poliklinische bezoeken overschrijdt 120.000, met 4500 poliklinische operaties (inclusief cystoscopie). Om patiënten beter van dienst te zijn, zijn er sub-specialistische poliklinieken voor urologie, stenen, tumoren en adrenal chirurgie.
De afdeling heeft momenteel 35 artsen, 32 verpleegkundigen en 3 technici. Dit omvat 9 hoofdartsen, 10 plaatsvervangend hoofdartsen, 12 behandelende artsen, 3 artsen in opleiding en 10 postdoctorale studenten. Er is momenteel één lid van het uitvoerend comité van de Chinese Urologie Vereniging, één vice-voorzitter van de Urologie Vereniging van Beijing, één vice-voorzitter van de sectie voor mannelijke artsen van de Chinese Artsenvereniging, één voorzitter van de sectie voor mannelijke artsen van de Beijing Artsenvereniging, één voorzitter van de commissie voor urologie van de Beijing Medical Reward Foundation, één vice-voorzitter van de commissie voor urologische tumoren van de Beijing Oncology Society, en meerdere andere leden van verschillende verenigingen; één redacteur van het Chinese Urologie Tijdschrift, één redacteur van het Chinese Chirurgie Tijdschrift, één adjunct-hoofdredacteur van het Chinese Tijdschrift voor Mannen Gezondheid, en meerdere redacteuren van andere professionele tijdschriften.

Basisinstelling voor de Chinese adrenal chirurgie. Onder leiding van professor Li Hanzhong en andere vooraanstaande experts, heeft het ziekenhuis een extreem lage mortaliteit bereikt in de perioperatieve zorg en minimaal invasieve chirurgie voor complexe adrenal chirurgie, zoals feochromocytoom, primaire hyperaldosteronisme en hypercortisolisme. Het ziekenhuis heeft de Da Vinci-robot en laparoscopische technieken breed geïntroduceerd.
Er is een hecht multidisciplinair team (MDT) voor adrenal ziekten opgericht in samenwerking met de endocrinologie en anesthesiologie, waarbij de Da Vinci-chirurgische robot en 3D-laparoscopie breed worden toegepast, met als doel tumorverwijdering en maximaal behoud van orgaanfunctie.
