HERITAGE & OVERVIEW
The Department of Pediatrics at Peking Union Medical College Hospital leverages the overall advantages of multidisciplinary collaboration in a comprehensive hospital, enjoying a prestigious reputation in the diagnosis and treatment of difficult diseases within the pediatric system in China; it has outstanding characteristics in the treatment of kidney diseases and autoimmune diseases; the neonatal specialty is robust, relying on the perinatal center of the hospital, leading in the emergency rescue and transport of critically ill neonates, as well as the management and follow-up of preterm infants, especially those with extremely low birth weight; in collaboration with the Genetics Laboratory of the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences and the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of the hospital, a genetic center has been established to provide prenatal genetic diagnosis and counseling for various genetic diseases; other specialties such as gastroenterology, respiratory medicine, and hematology are also rapidly developing; the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) collaborates with departments such as Cardiothoracic Surgery, Neurosurgery, and Orthopedics, responsible for the monitoring and treatment of surgical patients; it was one of the first in the country to implement systematic management and early intervention for high-risk infants, accumulating rich early education experience and continuously improving, making the Department of Pediatrics at Peking Union Medical College Hospital a truly comprehensive pediatric service provider.
