PUMCHتأسس قسم الأعصاب في المستشفى منذ عام 1921، وقد تطور باستمرار ليصبح تخصص الأعصاب المعروف على مستوى البلاد، وهو واحد من أوائل نقاط منح درجات الدكتوراه والماجستير في علم الأعصاب ومحطة ما بعد الدكتوراه في البلاد. يحتل القسم مكانة رائدة في معالجة وحل الأمراض المعقدة والخطيرة. يضم القسم الآن 11 مجموعة تخصصية (الفسيولوجيا العصبية السريرية، تخطيط الدماغ الكهربائي والصرع، الخرف واضطرابات الإدراك، الأمراض الوعائية الدماغية، باركنسون واضطرابات الحركة، علم الأمراض العصبية، الأمراض العصبية العضلية، العدوى وعلم الخلايا في السائل الدماغي الشوكي، المناعة العصبية، الوراثة العصبية والنوم)، ويقدم 9 عيادات متخصصة (عيادة الأمراض العصبية العضلية، عيادة اضطرابات التوتر العضلي وعلاج البوتوكس، عيادة باركنسون والخرف، عيادة الصرع، عيادة الأمراض الوعائية الدماغية، عيادة أمراض الخلايا العصبية الحركية، عيادة الوهن العضلي، عيادة التصلب المتعدد وعيادة الصداع، إلخ) لتقديم خدمات طبية عالية المستوى للمرضى. يحتل القسم مكانة ثابتة في قائمة سمعة التخصصات الطبية في الصين.
يمتلك القسم مجموعة شاملة من التخصصات، وقوة تقنية قوية. يتمتع الأطباء بمهارات سريرية قوية، ويتميز القسم بقوة عامة، خاصة في معالجة وحل الأمراض المعقدة والخطيرة، مما يجذب عددًا كبيرًا من المرضى من جميع أنحاء البلاد. يحتوي القسم على أكثر من 90 سريرًا، ويستقبل أكثر من 160,000 مريض سنويًا في العيادات الخارجية والطوارئ، و1600 مريض سنويًا في المستشفى. تم تجهيز مختبرات القسم بشكل كامل، حيث تُعتبر مختبرات تخطيط العضلات، والاستجابة الكهربائية الدماغية، وعلم الأمراض العصبية، وتخطيط دوبلر فوق الصوتي عبر الجمجمة، والكيمياء العصبية والمناعة، وعلم الأحياء الجزيئي من بين الأفضل في البلاد، مما يوفر فحوصات مساعدة عالية المستوى للمرضى.

يضم القسم حاليًا 57 طبيبًا، منهم 11 أستاذًا، و17 أستاذًا مساعدًا، و18 طبيبًا معالجًا، و11 طبيبًا مقيمًا، بينهم 7 مشرفين على دراسات الدكتوراه و8 مشرفين على دراسات الماجستير. كما يوجد 50 ممرضًا من مختلف المستويات. يولي القسم أهمية كبيرة لتدريب الكوادر، حيث يتمتع الخبراء المعروفون بخبرة كبيرة، بينما يتمتع الخبراء الشباب بقدرات قوية، وينمو الأطباء الشباب بسرعة. يتمتع 90% من المعلمين الكبار بخبرة في الدراسة والتدريب في الخارج. يشغل حاليًا رئيس القسم، البروفيسور تسوي ليينغ، منصب رئيس الجمعية الطبية الصينية لعلم الأعصاب (الدورة السابعة) ورئيس تحرير مجلة علم الأعصاب الصينية، وقد شغل سابقًا منصب رئيس الجمعية الطبية الصينية لعلم الأعصاب (الدورة الرابعة). يشغل 20 شخصًا من القسم مناصب في مجموعات التخصص المختلفة في الجمعية الطبية الصينية، ويشغل أكثر من 10 أشخاص مناصب نائب رئيس تحرير ولجنة تحرير في العديد من المجلات العلمية الأساسية في البلاد.
