PUMCHتأسس قسم طب العيون في المستشفى عام 1920، وهو من أوائل الأقسام التي تم إنشاؤها في الصين. بعد تأسيسه، تولى العديد من العلماء الدوليين البارزين في مجال طب العيون العمل هنا، مما جعله يُعرف بـ 'مركز طب العيون في فيينا الشرقية'. منذ تأسيسه في عام 1920، وبعد التطور المستمر، أصبح قسم العيون في المستشفى قاعدة متكاملة تجمع بين الطب والتعليم والبحث، ويحتل مستوى متقدماً على الصعيد الوطني، حيث وصلت بعض المشاريع إلى مستوى متقدم دولياً. قسم العيون هو من أوائل نقاط تدريب الماجستير والدكتوراه ومحطة ما بعد الدكتوراه، وأول قاعدة تدريب موحدة للأطباء المقيمين.
يضم قسم العيون حالياً منطقتين للعيادات (شرق دان وغرب دان)، ويقع جناح العيون في شرق دان، حيث يحتوي على 49 سريراً. يشتمل قسم العيون على مجموعات متخصصة في الشبكية، والزرق، والقرنية والانكسار، وطب العيون العصبي، والتهاب العنبية، وعلاج الرؤية والكسل، وجراحة تجميل العيون وقناة الدموع، والوراثة العينية، والأوبئة العينية والوقاية من العمى، كما يوجد مختبر للعيون للاستخدام السريري والبحث. تحت قيادة خبراء معروفين على المستوى الوطني مثل البروفيسور تشونغ يونغ، والبروفيسور تشين يوشين، والبروفيسور تشانغ ميفن، تم تشكيل مركز فرعي وطني متكامل يغطي أمراض الشبكية، والزرق، والمياه البيضاء، وأمراض القرنية، والتهاب العنبية، وطب العيون العصبي.
يمتلك قسم العيون خبراء معروفين ذوي خبرة واسعة في جميع مجالات التخصص، يقدمون خدماتهم للمرضى الذين يعانون من أمراض العيون المعقدة من جميع أنحاء البلاد. مع استخدام مبنى العيادات الجديد ومبنى الجراحة الجديد في عام 2012، تم تجهيز القسم بمعدات علاجية تتماشى مع المراكز العالمية الرائدة في طب العيون، مما أدى إلى تحسين كبير في بيئة العلاج. حالياً، يقدم قسم العيون خدمات العيادات العامة (في منطقتي شرق دان وغرب دان)، والعيادات المتخصصة، والعيادات الخاصة، والعيادات الدولية، لتلبية احتياجات المرضى المتعددة في الرعاية الصحية، حيث يتجاوز عدد المرضى في العيادات 120,000 سنوياً. يقوم قسم العيون بإجراء عمليات جراحية متنوعة مثل جراحة الشبكية الزجاجية، وجراحة تصحيح قصر النظر بالليزر فائق السرعة، وجراحة إزالة المياه البيضاء، وزرع العدسات الاصطناعية في العيون ذات العدسات الطبيعية، وجراحة تصحيح الحول، وجراحة تجميل العيون، حيث يتجاوز عدد العمليات الجراحية 8000 عملية سنوياً. بالإضافة إلى ذلك، أكمل قسم العيون بنجاح المهام الطبية المتعلقة بمساعدة المناطق النائية، والمساعدة في شينجيانغ، والتبت، وأفريقيا، وأستراليا، وغيرها من المهام الطبية.

يعتمد القسم على التصوير عالي الدقة متعدد الأنماط للشبكية (OCT/OCTA)، والفسيولوجيا الكهربائية للعين، ونظام القطع الزجاجي بالحد الأدنى من التدخل، بالتعاون مع قسم الغدد الصماء وقسم المناعة لتنفيذ تشخيص دقيق وعلاج متعدد التخصصات.
