PUMCHتاريخ قسم الجراحة العامة في المستشفى له إنجازات بارزة في تاريخ الطب الصيني، حيث ظهر العديد من الخبراء الطبيين المعروفين على مستوى البلاد وحتى دولياً، مثل البروفيسور زين شينج جيو، وزو يي، وزونغ شواو شين، وزهاو يوباي. منذ الثمانينيات، تحت قيادة مديري القسم وقادة التخصص، تم إنشاء مجموعات متخصصة في وقت مبكر في البلاد، تشمل البنكرياس، والقنوات الصفراوية، والجهاز الهضمي، والأوعية الدموية، والثدي، والكبد، والتغذية الجراحية، والرعاية الحرجة، ومختبرات سريرية ذات صلة. بعد عقود من الجهود المستمرة، أصبح هذا القسم مركزاً لتشخيص وعلاج الأمراض الصعبة والخطيرة في مجال الجراحة العامة، حيث يمتلك هيكلًا معقولًا وفريقًا متميزًا من الكوادر، ويشغل العديد من الخبراء مناصب قيادية في جمعية الطب الصينية ومجلات محلية ودولية.
يتميز قسم الجراحة العامة في المستشفى بمجالات فريدة في أمراض البنكرياس، وأمراض الجهاز الهضمي، وأمراض القنوات الصفراوية، والتغذية داخل وخارج الأمعاء، سواء في المجالات السريرية أو البحثية، حيث أن بعض الأبحاث في هذه المجالات تعتبر رائدة على المستوى المحلي والدولي.
يولي قسم الجراحة العامة أهمية كبيرة لبناء فرق أكاديمية، ويستفيد بشكل كامل من دور الأطباء الكبار في التعليم والتوجيه، مما يخلق دورة صحية إيجابية، حيث أن الهيكل العمري للفريق معقول للغاية. حالياً، يضم القسم 8 أساتذة، و12 أستاذ مساعد، و25 طبيب مختص؛ من بينهم 21 يحملون درجة الدكتوراه و13 يحملون درجة الماجستير؛ 90% من الأفراد في الفئة العمرية الذهبية للأطباء الجراحيين (35-55 سنة). في كل مجموعة تخصصية، تتوزع النسب بين الأساتذة، والأساتذة المساعدين، والأطباء المختصين بشكل مثالي.

تحتل الجراحة العامة المرتبة الأولى في سمعة التخصصات الجراحية على مستوى البلاد لأكثر من عشر سنوات متتالية. اسم «الجراحة العامة» مستمد من تقاليد التعاون التي تمتد لمئة عام، ويشمل مجالات الجراحة العامة الأساسية مثل البنكرياس، والجهاز الهضمي، والغدة الدرقية، والقنوات الصفراوية، والثدي، وهو المعقل الرئيسي لجمعية الطب الصينية في جراحة الأعضاء ومجموعة جراحة البنكرياس الوطنية.
