PUMCHتم تأسيس قسم الأمراض التنفسية في المستشفى على يد الخبير المعروف في علم الأمراض التنفسية في الصين، البروفيسور الراحل زو غوي تشينغ، وهو قسم ذو تاريخ طويل. كواحد من أول الأقسام التي تم تأسيسها في البلاد، يعد قسم الأمراض التنفسية في المستشفى مركزاً رائداً في العلوم التنفسية السريرية والبحث، ومركزاً لعلاج الأمراض التنفسية المعقدة، ويضم العديد من الرواد المعروفين في مجال الأمراض التنفسية في الصين. من بين الذين عملوا أو يعملون هنا، يوجد البروفيسور لو وي تشي الذي حصل على
جائزة الإنجاز مدى الحياة للأطباء التنفسيين في الصين
والبروفيسور زو يوان جوي، وكذلك البروفيسور هوانغ شي تشين، والبروفيسور لي لونغ يون، والبروفيسور تساي باي تشانغ، والبروفيسور لو وي شوان، بالإضافة إلى البروفيسور لين ياو غوانغ الذي حصل على
جائزة المساهمة المتميزة من الجمعية الطبية الصينية للأمراض التنفسية.
في أغسطس 2018، تم تغيير اسم قسم الأمراض التنفسية في مستشفى الاتحاد إلى قسم الطب الرئوي والعناية الحرجة (PCCM).
يتكون قسم الطب الرئوي والعناية الحرجة حالياً من 11 مجموعة، وهي: مجموعة مرض الانسداد الرئوي المزمن، مجموعة اضطرابات النوم التنفسية، مجموعة الأمراض الخلالية الرئوية، مركز سرطان الرئة، مجموعة الانسداد الرئوي وأمراض الأوعية الدموية الرئوية، مجموعة الربو، مجموعة العناية الحرجة، مجموعة العدوى، مجموعة التدخلات، مجموعة العلاج التنفسي، ومجموعة مكافحة التدخين. يضم قسم الطب الرئوي والعناية الحرجة حالياً 33 طبيباً، بما في ذلك 10 أطباء استشاريين، و10 أطباء مساعدين، و13 طبيباً مقيماً. تتمتع مجموعة الأمراض الخلالية الرئوية بقيادة البروفيسور شيو زو جيون، ومركز علاج سرطان الرئة بقيادة البروفيسور وانغ مينغ تشاو والبروفيسور تشانغ لي، ومركز النوم التنفسي بقيادة البروفيسور شياو يي، ومجموعة أمراض الأوعية الدموية الرئوية بقيادة البروفيسور شي جيو هونغ والبروفيسور شيو كاي فنغ بتكوين فريق متكامل، مما يمثل سمة مميزة للقسم.

يعتبر قسم الأمراض التنفسية في طليعة الأقسام على مستوى البلاد. يحتل الصدارة في علاج الأمراض الخلالية الرئوية (مثل التليف الرئوي مجهول السبب، والأمراض الرئوية المرتبطة بأمراض النسيج الضام)، ومرض ليمفانجيوليوموماتوز (LAM)، والأمراض الرئوية النادرة، وعلاج سرطان الرئة، حيث يمتلك أكبر مجموعة من المرضى المصابين بالأمراض الرئوية النادرة في البلاد ومركزاً دولياً معروفاً للتدخلات التنفسية.
بفضل استخدام قياسات وظائف الرئة، والأشعة المقطعية عالية الدقة، والتنظير القصبي البارد مع خزعة، وقراءة متعددة التخصصات للأنسجة (MDD)، يتم تحقيق التمييز الدقيق المبكر للأمراض الخلالية والنادرة للرئة.
