PUMCHتأسس قسم جراحة العظام في المستشفى كجزء من كلية تشيهي الطبية في بكين في عشرينيات القرن الماضي، وهو مركز رائد في جراحة العظام والبحث في الصين. العديد من الرواد في مجال جراحة العظام في الصين، مثل البروفيسور مينغ جي ماو، والبروفيسور وانغ غوي شينغ، والبروفيسور وو تشي كانغ، والبروفيسور وانغ فوكوان، والبروفيسور سونغ شيان وين، قد عملوا هنا. تحت قيادة المدير السابق، الأكاديمي الشهير في جراحة العظام، ورئيس لجنة جراحة العظام في الجمعية الطبية الصينية، الأكاديمي تشيو غوي شينغ، حصل قسم جراحة العظام على العديد من الألقاب، بما في ذلك التخصص الرئيسي من وزارة التعليم والتخصص الرئيسي من وزارة الصحة.

يولي قسم جراحة العظام اهتمامًا كبيرًا لتدريب القوى الشابة، حيث لا يقتصر الأمر على تعليمهم وتوريثهم الصفات الجيدة وأسلوب العمل للخبراء القدامى، بل تم إرسال العديد من الأطباء الشباب إلى أستراليا واليابان والولايات المتحدة وفرنسا وهونغ كونغ وتايوان للتدريب والتطوير، وقد عادوا جميعًا بعد إتمام دراستهم ليصبحوا من الكوادر الأساسية في القسم. كما يولي القسم اهتمامًا بالتواصل مع الجامعات والخبراء المعروفين دوليًا، حيث دعا خبراء جراحة العظام من الولايات المتحدة وفرنسا واليابان وكوريا الجنوبية والمملكة المتحدة لإجراء عروض جراحية، وتقديم محاضرات أكاديمية، ومناقشة القضايا، بهدف تحسين مستوى التشخيص والعلاج والبحث العلمي في قسم جراحة العظام.
يضم قسم جراحة العظام حاليًا 3 وحدات سريرية تحتوي على 132 سريرًا، مع غرف عادية وغرف خاصة لتلبية احتياجات الرعاية الصحية المختلفة؛ وينقسم القسم إلى مجموعات متخصصة تشمل جراحة العمود الفقري، وجراحة المفاصل، وإصابات العظام، والطب الرياضي، وأورام العظام، وجراحة القدم والكاحل، والجراحة minimally invasive؛ يمكن للمرضى اختيار خدمات العيادات الخارجية لجراحة العظام، وعيادات الخبراء الخاصة، والعيادات العامة حسب احتياجاتهم، بينما تظل خدمات الطوارئ متاحة على مدار 365 يومًا في السنة، وعلى مدار 24 ساعة في اليوم لتقديم الرعاية الصحية للمرضى.
